Cultural Wars Against Poland

Cultural Wars Against Poland is a popular science historical series published by the National Center for Culture in Poland. Coordinates: war, roughness, destruction, nationality, invaders, red accents referring to the color of Poland. Very rough paper chosen for the cover - Antalis Curious Collection Matter, Goya White - strengthens the message. The tear-off of a page on the covers is enhanced by the dry-stamping technique. The printing color of the inside of the books is two-tone - black and intense red. Otinid binding allows to open the book flat, which makes it easier to read.

Memories of Mukden

These are books on the city's history and regional culture. The books consists of eight volumes, which respectively introduce eight places of interest in Mukden. Mukden is the birthplace of Qing culture and an important Chinese cultural heritage. Books are bound by folding, materials are metal, rice paper, brocade and so on. The shape of the book is an octagonal palace lantern, which expresses the meaning that the palace lantern carries the memory of the old times and lights illuminate the history and culture. The content of the book uses digital illustration to depict the scene.

Catalogue of Incunabula

The two-volume "Catalogue of Incunabula in the National Library of Poland" presents the collection of 15th-century prints held by the BNP. The idea of the project refers to the style of the first Renaissance prints and typography – both in the materials’ selection: elegant, hand-made cover, by referring to typography, an oldstyle Adobe Jenson font, large initials, which are the leitmotif of the project, as well as the technique of two-color typographic printing in the title of the cover.

Craft as Time Capsule

This project is the final documentation of Hsiao-Wen's thesis research on craft making as a preservation methodology in the current digital age. The book consists of three parts, examining the transition between the physical and virtual, material and data, user engagement and experience from the perspective of craft making and preservation. As the world transitioned from physical activities to virtual interactions, new needs and forms of engagement with our surroundings were prompted. Such change not only exhibits via the object and the technology, but also the whole culture at large.

Refracting Reality

Light has been the main part of our world since the beginning of time. Humans have learned to use light to tell stories, relate, experience, and communicate. The book expressed light characteristics: Refraction, Reflection, Diffraction, and Interferer through typography and imageries. The light experience was considered in the book's materials, such as coated paper, uncoated paper, and a solid prism. The prism of the book spine was used to manifest the perception of light.

Anyone who can read knows the 26 letters of the Latin alphabet. But where do those letters come from? How long do they exist? And who designed them? Autobahn and Bette Westera take you back to the time of your distant ancestors, who made a drawing if they wanted to "write" something. Slowly but surely, their drawings changed into the first letters. If you look closely, you can recognize the Latin current alphabet. And guess what? A is not for Apple at all, but for Ox!
